2010 ERO Report

This was a very positive experience for us in early Term 2 in 2010, please follow the link to the ERO page and our report.

The 2010 review methodology was extremely inclusive and we are thrilled to have been advised that our next visit will be in 4-5 years.

Inquiry Learning

Here at Hiruharama we believe that our children benefit by taking an integrated approach to learning and teaching. This is done using the Inquiry Process. This process involves a number of steps that children engage in so that they are active participants in their learning.
1. PLANNING - What is it that we are going to be learning about? Teachers set the rich learning task based on the overarching problem or task.
2. SET THE SCENE - Introduce the task, activate prior knowledge.
3. ACQUIRE - Define key words and phrases, pose questions, gather information, validate information. Assess and review progress.
4. USE THE INFORMATION - Create own definitions, solutions etc. Creatively utilise the information in practical ways to solve the problem or task.
5. COMMUNICATE - Communicate my learning and the answers to my questions, problem or task in an appropriate way for my audience.
6. EVALUATION - Ongoing throughout the cycle of learning. Both process and product are evaluated.
