This great little clip showed up on YouTube. A couple of years ago Gisborne Mayor Meng Foon invited Nanny Kuini Tawhai to put actions to his song "Tu Mai". Our children were then taught the actions and they performed it when the CD was launched.

This year groups of up to 6 children have been attending a range of activities provided by the "Pumanawa Cluster". This cluster is a pilot gifted and talented programme being run by Tairawhiti REAP in 5 schools, of which we are one. It is envisaged that should the pilot be successful the programme will be offered to all EC Schools. The cluster has allowed many of our more talented and capable children to engage in learning opportunities that they would not normally experience everyday at school. Activities this year have been:

ART WORKSHOPS - We have 6 budding artists from Y4&5 who have been working with Gisborne based teacher Melody Craw. To date they have explored a number of media including pasifika art, printmaking and painting. At the conclusion of their workshop series all children involved will be part of an exhibition to be displayed in Ruatorea.

MUSIC WORKSHOPS - We have had 6 talented singers working with local music education providers Delia and Wuz during the term. These children represented the school at the T2 "Stars in your Eyes" inter-school event held in Ruatorea. All of our children were outstanding and really shone on the day!

DRAMA WORKSHOPS - Four Y7&8 girls participated in a series of workshops with Gisborne based specialist drama teacher Mary Cowper. At the end of the workshops series all of the participants from the 5 cluster schools presented a play to an enthusiastic audience at Hiruharama.

WRITING WORKSHOPS - Six capable writers from Y5&6 participated in 3 creative writing workshops, 2 of these were with Melody Craw and the third was with renown children's author Mary Kippenburger.

ELECTRONICS - Five Y7&8 boys have had the opportunity to explore electronics with Campion College based science teacher Joel Sparks. The boys absolutely love the chance to experiment and "tutu" with circuits, batteries and switches.
